Medical Apartheid
African Americans are at higher risk of death from coronavirus. As the novel coronavirus sweeps across the United States, it appears to be infecting and killing black Americans at a disproportionately high rate. Blacks have more existing medical issues,less access to health care, and more likely to work in unstable jobs all factors that have made the coronavirus pandemic disproportionately hurt blacks more.
1619 Project: More than 400 years since the first enslaved Africans were brought to the United States, the political climate for economic empowerment and equality for African Americans invites us to reflect on both the freedoms and liberties gained with the abolishment of slavery. Such reflection would also include the sustained racial discrimination that continues to pervade black communities, exploring best practices and strategies for black empowerment in the current political climate.
Forty percent (40%) of victims of human trafficking are African American women and girls. Human trafficking disproportionately subjects this group to sexual misconduct and violence at alarming rates. The conversations will include education, deterrence, and awareness in the Black community and support of elimination of this crime.
Taking A Cut Out of Life by 100 Black Men of America, Inc. is a traveling series birthed from the experiences of so many African American males, from youth to adulthood. In Thomas W. Dortch, Jr.’s book, The Miracles of Mentoring, He reminisces on a familiar scene where African American men discuss the issues of the community while sharing knowledge and opinions with the youth.
The barbershop has always been somewhat of a cultural rite of passage, where wisdom is shared with the next generation of men. In response to the urgent need to deliver real solutions, 100 Black Men of America, Inc. has activated the 100 Network to deliver the 100 Barbershop Tour across the United States.
